Preserving the Artistry of the Past: An Exhibition of 17th Century Joinery and Carving

At Colonial Crafts of Connecticut, we are dedicated to celebrating the rich traditions of our forefathers through the artisan crafts of wood carving, furniture making, leather craft, blacksmithing, broom making and basket weaving. Rick and Anne Marie's focus are on connecting people to the beautiful history of local New England handmade crafts.

The photos below show Rick using traditional techniques and hand tools to create a 17th century desk box. These boxes played a major role in the lives of people living in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the 17th century. They were traditionally made out of oak and pine and were elaborately carved. Rick is a guest instructor at the Eric Sloane Museum and does reproductions of the priceless pieces of the past.
