Broom Making with Katie Lukas

 This class will teach you how to make a basic Turkey Wing style broom. We will use colonial techniques but include some colorful accents to make sure you go home with a broom fit to display in your living room! This is traditionally a hearth broom without a full handle, used to sweep the dirt away from yesterday's fire. We will also demo

 This class will teach you how to make a basic Turkey Wing style broom. We will use colonial techniques but include some colorful accents to make sure you go home with a broom fit to display in your living room! This is traditionally a hearth broom without a full handle, used to sweep the dirt away from yesterday's fire. We will also demonstrate making a Hawktail broom if there is time. Materials are provided in the class fee of $70. Pay in person on Day 1 or through Venmo/PayPal.

In this session, you will learn how to layout your design. We learn adze and gouge techniques for creating the hollow of the bowl.   We will discuss the advantages of using green wood as well as techniques for sculpting the exterior using an axe, drawknife and gouge. There will be plenty of time for questions

Anne Marie will start our even off by showing you how you can make a simple wooden swivel spoon/hook sheath to protect the edge of your hook knife.

Here for all your all your questions, Robert Ferris is a spoon and bowl carver.  He also makes cutting boards with his wife, Mary.  Robert is an expert tool sharpener.  You can also find him making other crafts such as willow wreaths.
